The opening theme for Honey & Clover definitely takes a while for some people to get used to, but it has one of the most unique videos out of all the animes that I have seen. Like I said before, the reason I’m doing the OP at the beginning is because of my failed attempt at reviewing the entire first episode. After taking more than 20 screen shots for just the first 30 seconds of the episode, even before the actual OP, I realized that I need to allot more pictures for every single episode as well as seperate reviews for the OP and the ED. The OP itself has 48 screen shots after taking them frame by frame.
There’s really nothing to say about the OP besides that it’s original. Throughout the entire song the video involes spinning plates of food made out of plastic or jelly..more likely plastic. I remember reading on someone else’s blog that it represents how poor the main characters are during their university years, and in order to show that they had a whole lot of different kinds of food, in fact more than 45 of them just in the beginning video.
The song’s name is Dramatic by YUKI. YUKI’s sound is pretty unique and they sang for both the first and the second season of Honey & Clover. At first her sound may seem a little bit squeaky, but after a while one gets used to it. If you wish to hear the song, please buy their CD and support the artists, or buy the DVD set for Honey & Clover. Note that Honey & Clover the first season is licensed so downloading it will be illegal. However, the second season is not yet licensed.

When the song reaches to the refrain the dishes becomes animated. For example, the pasta turned to a little girl with white dresses, presumebly Hagu since she’s so short. It’s just pretty random, but I really did enjoy taking all those screenshots even though they took forever. A lot of those pictures change within one second so I had to go through them frame by frame, trying to get the best shot. Anyways, here’s more pictures. Tomorrow hopefully I will upload something about the Ending Theme.
